3 Easy Ways to Benefit from excess solar energy

There’s never been a better time to invest in solar panels for your property and in this post we explore three easy ways you can use the excess energy.

  1. Heating your hot water - utilising an energy diverter can divert excess energy to your immersion heater, reducing your gas bill. In the summer months you may end up paying nothing to heat your water, depeneding on energy production and the amount of excess you have.

  2. Charge your car - with a smart EV charge point (such as Zappi or Andersen A2). These innovative car chargers monitor your Solar energy for any excess and uses it to charge the car.

  3. Store your excess - so you use it when you need it. The GivEnergy battery storage solutions allow you to store your excess enegy so it can be used on demand. You can also charge the batteries using cheaper night time tariffs and use the energy stores during the day when usage rates tend to be higher.

It's All in the Detail

When we install solar panels, batteries and / or car chargers, we ALWAYS make sure that our installations are as neat and tidy as they can be. This means not just the big parts of the job such as panels and batteries, but making sure any visible cabling is straight and neat too. We pride oursleves making sure everything is seamless like this example of our recent installation.

Solar Panels with No Rails

These solar panels can be installed without the need for rails. This means the panels fix together, creating a neat and seamless finish.

The Importance of your MPAN Number for Green Energy Installs

MPAN NUMBER EXAMPLE

Every electricity supply point has an MPAN number which identifies that particular

supply point.  MPAN stands for: Meter Point Administration Number.

Some properties, usually businesses can have more than one MPAN number on their premises.

Why is your MPAN number significant for solar installations?

Whenever your house or office has solar panels installed, your Distribution Network

Operator (DNO) only identifies your premises by the MPAN number, rather than the

physical address.  Therefore, when your installer applies to your DNO for your solar install,

the DNO will request your MPAN number so they can identify the exact supply point.

Where can you find your MPAN number?

Your MPAN number usually consists of 21 digits and starts with an S, followed by a

series of numbers.  You can sometimes find your MPAN number at the location of your meter.

If you have a smart meter, you can also find it using the scroll button.  It also usually

appears on your utility bill from your electricity supplier i.e., British Gas.

What do the numbers on your MPAN number mean?

Each set of numbers represents different information.  For example:

- Profile Type

- Meter Time-Switch Code

- Line Loss Factor

- Distributor ID

- Unique Identifier

- Check Digit

Is the MPAN number needed for anything else?

Yes, if you are intending to apply for SEG - Smart Export Guarantee, you will

need your MPAN number for the application.  Again, this is so your export point can be identified.
