CASE STUDY: Store Property
Store Property is a family-owned business, and their operations include ownership, management and development. With over two million sq ft of offices, industrial units and retail outlets, Store Property continues to grow and with their forward-thinking ethos, they have invested in solar solutions for their properties including an industrial unit in Farnham, Surrey.
THE CHALLENGE
Having just invested in a new roof for the industrial unit in Farnham, Store Property wanted to ensure the solar system was the right fit for the roof and wanted to ensure that the design considered elements such as the sky lights. These were integral to the design of the roof because they allowed plenty of light to penetrate the roof into the warehouse below.
THE SOLUTION
The solution was to install 144 panels at 425 watts providing just over 60kWs of generation to cover the new roof which was approximately 55 metres in length.
Pre-installation
Equally as important as the installation itself, the design phase required discussion between all stakeholders to ensure the proposed system was fit-for-purpose.
With some careful consideration for the design, an application was sent to Scottish and Southern Energy (SSE) which included details such as the size of the solar system, as well as key parts required within the installation. Other considerations included the mountings of the panels, the process itself and any potential implications for the new roof. Measurements were taken from existing steel work as well as measurements of the new roof showing any gaps in raised sections.
Working closely with the roof builders, it was established that the roof could easily accommodate the proposed solar panels.
Installation
Having received the green-light following an application to Scottish and Southern Energy (SSE), the installation was planned for the beginning of February 2024.
As the property was an industrial unit, the type of mounting system chosen was designed specifically for this type of roof. Ensuring manufacturers fitting instructions are followed will give the installation a strong watertight fit. Calculations were also evaluated to ensure the system could accommodate high winds and even the weight of snow.
Post Installation
Ensuring the panels continue to operate to optimum capacity, Store Property organised for a service and maintenance contract through UK Green Energy Installation, which will also help to maximise the longevity of the panels.
