If you are thinking of having an EV charger installed, it is advisable to get a loading analysis completed first. The results of the analysis which determines factors such as the maximum capacity can affect which EV charger you can have installed at your premises.
Loading Analysis
What is loading analysis?
As EV charging units can be a powerful addition to your office / premises, the electrical consumption can be significant, so it’s essential to determine the maximum capacity of your current electrical supply, as well as the capacity for expansion of this supply. Loading analysis determines the capacity.
What is the usual supply in amps?
Commercial installations can have single phase 230 volt or three phase 400 volt supply from the street, with larger buildings usually being three phase. Phase three allows for more loading, however this loading does need to be balanced to prevent any neutral currents.
Why do i need loading analysis?
Not only does loading analysis determine your maximum capacity when exploring EV charger installation, but the information can also be useful when looking at cost saving and energy efficiency of your electrical systems.
In larger buildings such as manufacturing sites, machinery can have a large impact on the total loading of the electrical supply, as some machinery is only in use at certain times, meaning analysis over a longer period is essential.
How we carry out loading Analysis
We use metering equipment that provides information on electrical consumption at any given time or over a set period of time. This information can be stored within the metering equipment allowing us to leave it in situ, taking readings for up to a week. It’s then downloaded and analysed to prove a worst case scenario of maximum loading.
