Energy Price Cap Set to Rise in January 2025 – What You Can Do About It

From 1 January to 31 March 2025, the energy price cap will rise to £1,738 per year for a typical household using both electricity and gas and paying by Direct Debit. This is a 1.2% increase from the current cap of £1,717 (from 1 October to 31 December 2024).

You can find more details on the official OFGEM website.

What Can You Do to Control Your Energy Costs?

Unfortunately, energy prices are expected to keep rising, with the cap being regularly reviewed. But there’s good news! You don’t have to just accept these price hikes. By switching to sustainable energy sources, like installing Solar PV panels, you can take control of your energy bills and even reduce your dependency on the grid.

How Much Could You Save?

The amount you can save depends on several factors, including how many panels you can fit on your property. Some installations are even capable of generating enough energy to sell back to your provider – turning your home into a mini energy generator!

How Long Until You See Payback?

Solar panel installations vary, but in some cases, you could start seeing a return on your investment in as little as 6.5 years.

What Other Benefits Can Solar Panels Offer?

Beyond saving on your bills, there are several other advantages to installing Solar PV panels:

  • Battery Storage & Inverters: Many customers also opt to have battery storage and inverters installed alongside their solar panels. This allows them to store surplus energy, which can be used later – especially useful when electricity prices are high.

  • Energy Independence During Power Cuts: If you live in an area prone to power cuts or intermittent energy loss, having solar panels combined with battery storage could provide a backup source of power during outages.

  • Hot Water Heating: In the summer, you can even use your solar energy to heat your water directly, making your system even more efficient.
